Do Not Miss It!: Our comprehensive First Drive Review of the 2018 Maruti Swift
UPDATE: Everything you need to know about the 2018 Maruti Swift
A few months ago, we got the chance to look at the next generation Swift when its pictures accidentally spilt online. The car was in its ‘Sport’ guise, which is currently only Europe-centric, but it did give a fair idea of how the Indian version could look like. Now, the Swift has yet again been spied testing under heavy camouflage.
The spied car seems to be the standard version of the new Swift as we cannot spot the twin exhaust tip popping out of the rear, like it did in the Sport variant. However, the images clearly showcase the updated exteriors. One can notice broader front and rear wheel arches, a new butch front end, and a newly carved rear taillight unit along with the new tailgate. However, the silhouette, though new, still closely resembles the current car. Other important highlights that we know from the previous spy shots were a floating roof line, a snout-like front grille and a differently done headlamp unit, which are hidden under the camouflaged skin.
There are also reports that the new car will be shorter in term of overall length as compared to the current Swift, but wider. It is also expected to lose a considerable amount of weight and will be lighter than its bigger sister Baleno, which it isn’t currently.
Under the hood, the next-gen Swift is expected to get the same set of engines in India. However, in the wake of the speculation surrounding the introduction of the 1.0-litre turbocharged BoosterJet motor in many existing Maruti cars in India, the all-new Swift might get that as well in the country. While, globally, it should get the 1.2-litre dual injection petrol engine and Suzuki’s 1.4-litre BoosterJet. There are also rumours that the upcoming car could employ the SHVS mild hybrid technology, but only in the European market.
More details of the car are expected to be released by Suzuki in its press conference, which is scheduled to take place on September 29 at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
