The next-gen Honda Jazz will also debut the smoking hot Type-R variant known for its rubber-shredding tendencies

  • The next-gen Jazz retains its basic silhouette albeit with a new overall design.
  • It will get a dual motor hybrid variant, which may not be offered in India.
  • Type-R variant likely to get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that develops a whopping 220PS.
  • Expected to launch in India next year, may carry over engines from the current model.

Honda has been hard at work testing the next-gen Jazz overseas ahead of its global debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. So far, the carmaker has managed to keep it under wraps. Now though, the car has been revealed almost completely thanks to a leaked document. It also reveals that the next-gen Jazz will be available in a sportier Type-R variant.

While the basic silhouette remains the same, the next-gen Jazz gets plenty of new styling bits all around. At the front, the Jazz gets a new grille which is flanked by a pair of projector headlamps with LED DRLs. A sportier airdam tops up the look at the front. At the side, the Jazz gets a revised window line and larger alloy wheels - though the wheels could be limited to the Type-R variant. While the rear hasn’t been revealed, based on previous spy shots, the next-gen Jazz gets split LED units.

The interiors of the all-new Jazz are yet to be revealed, but previous spy shots confirm that the Jazz will get a brand new interior.

The next-gen Honda Jazz will get a dual-motor hybrid powertrain in its lineup. Apart from the hybrid powertrain, the next-gen Jazz will also get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be exclusive to the sporty Type-R variant. This engine is rumoured to develop 220PS of maximum power and 245Nm of torque. While it is yet to be known whether the India-bound Jazz will get these engines, Honda is most likely to continue with the 1.2-litre i-VTEC and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC units already offered here, albeit upgraded to comply with BS6-emission norms.

Underpinning the Jazz will be the same platform as the 2020 Honda City that has been spied testing in Thailand.

The next-gen Jazz is expected to arrive on our shores next year and is expected to be priced between Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). We also really hope that Honda brings in the Type-R variant to satisfy enthusiasts. Fingers crossed!

The all-new Honda Jazz will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Tata Altroz.
