Next-Gen BMW 5 Series Teased

BMW has just released a teaser video of its next-generation executive sedan, the 5 Series. Currently in its sixth generation, the 5 Series is one of the bestselling cars from the German carmaker. The car will make its first official appearance at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show in January, although it was previously rumoured to be at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

In the teaser video, BMW has not disclosed much details of the sedan, however, apart from the silhouette of the car, it does provide a glimpse of the rear LED lamps. The design of the LED brake lamps is similar to that of the current-gen 7 Series, with minor changes to the LED lamp structure.

The seventh-generation 5 Series will adopt BMW’s new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. Under this platform, BMW has been able to make the 5 Series sturdier with lower overweight as compared to the current outgoing model. It comes as good news to BMW as, compared to its rivals, the 5 Series is known to be on the heavier side in terms of overall weight.

On the feature front, the new 5 Series will come with a long list of goodies with some borrowed from BMW’s flagship model, the 7 Series. Some of the expected features are laser headlights, Dynamic Drive, driver assistance systems and gesture control.

On the competition front, in India, the BMW 5 Series competes against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF and the Audi A6.
