The new scooter is likely to be equipped with a 125cc fuel-injected engine

A prototype of the all-new TVS scooter wearing camouflage was spotted quite recently. Going by the pictures, the scooter, most likely to be an all-new version of the Jupiter, is equipped with a front disc brake and a twin-pod instrument cluster that incorporates an analogue speedometer and a digital readout for fuel level, odometer and trip readings.

It is speculated that the new scooter will sport a bigger 125cc powerplant while word is that this engine could also be fuel-injected. Although this cannot be confirmed from these pictures, images of another test mule shot sans camouflage that appeared in early 2016 showed the clear absence of a choke lever. If these speculations are true, then TVS could become the first manufacturer to offer a fuel-injected scooter in the Indian market. The Jupiter 125, if launched, will also be the first 125cc scooter to get an external fuel filler cap and a reserve fuel indicator. Compared to a carburettor, fuel-injection not only reduces the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted by the engine, but also sharpens throttle responses and makes cold-starts easier.

Since this is a test mule, the presence of the headlight switch seems to suggest that the scooter has not been equipped with the Always Headlamp On (AHO) feature. But it does get an electric starter and engine kill switch.

The current Jupiter is powered by a 109.7cc engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. The powerplant produces 7.99PS of power at 7500rpm and 8Nm of peak torque at 5500rpm. The scooter sports telescopic front suspension and a gas-charged monoshock at the rear. The ZX variant was recently upgraded with Sync Brake System (SBS), which is similar to Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS). This feature automatically applies the front brakes whenever the rear brakes are used, thereby enhancing the braking performance of the scooter. When launched, the 125cc Jupiter will go up against the Honda Activa 125, the Suzuki Access 125, Vespa VXL 125 and the Vespa SXL 125.
