The Suzuki Access 125 is the highest selling scooter for the Japanese two-wheeler giant in the Indian market. But with competition stepping up the ante, especially the Honda Activa 125, the market share for the Access 125 slid down. And there were good reasons for it; the Suzuki Access 125 was in a desperate need of cosmetic and mechanical update. Suzuki took notice of the same and showcased the new Access 125 at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The scooter is a mid-life facelift rather than a generation change, but the design has been revamped all around and it has been confirmed that the new scooter will be launched on March 15th. Expect the new Suzuki Access 125 to be priced at a marginal premium over its predecessor at around Rs 54,000 ex-showroom Delhi for the base drum variant.
The scooter now features a larger redesigned headlamp which gives the scooter a slightly retro appeal. The indicators have been redesigned as well along with the side panels. The taillamp cluster is also new and comes with a wraparound styling and LED brake light flanked by clear indicators. It also now sports a semi-digital instrument console unit.
Mechanically the scooter remains identical to the outgoing model. It still employs the 125cc single cylinder motor producing 9PS of max power and 10Nm of peak torque. That said, Suzuki has fiddled with the engine to reduce frictional losses by introducing its SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance technology to improve fuel efficiency and performance. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and the scooter features telescopic forks up front. Though in place of the 120mm drum brakes up front, Suzuki has introduced a disc brake up front as part of optional equipment.
