Stefano Domenicali new Lamborghini head

Stefano Domenicali has been named the new CEO of Lamborghini replacing Stephan Winkelmann who has head the Italian supercar manufacturer for the last 11 years. Stefano Domenicali was the head of Ferrari’s Formula 1 efforts until his rocky departure from the legendary racing team a couple of years ago. Post Ferrari, Stefano also worked with Audi and FIA on projects like LeMans.

Stephan Winklemann will take over as the head of Audi’s Quattro division which is responsible for all S and RS models that Audi makes along with race cars that Audi makes for LeMans, the FIA’s WEC and other race programs like DTM and WTCC. Before Lamborghini, Winklemann has worked with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Fiat. In fact Stephan was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Fiat Auto Austria, Switzerland and Germany before joining Lamborghini in 2005.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the board of management of Audi AG, commented, “With his experience from more than eleven years in charge of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann will be a key contributor to the further growth of Quattro GmbH.” Under his leadership, Lamborghini rose from a manufacturer that made just a few hundred cars to a record of 3,245 units in 2015.

Stephan Winkelmann replaces Heinz Hollerweger who will retire after working for Audi for 40 years. As the new head of Lamborghini, we expect Stefano Domenicali to bring about a radical change, especially with new cars like the Urus SUV about to be put into production along with mainstay cars like the Aventador and the Huracan.
