Maruti Suzuki India, in a recent press release, has revealed that its premium hatchback offering, the Baleno, has crossed the ‘one lakh units’ sales mark within a year of its launch. The car was introduced back in October 2015 and went against the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.

Ever since its launch, the Baleno had given tough competition to both its competitors and has been majorly dominating the segment. The car has taken Maruti’s market position to an all-new level, especially with its newly formed venture, Nexa. The Baleno effect was so much that it not only affected its rivals, but the sales of its own siblings – the Swift and the Dzire – also suffered the collateral damage.

Apart from the domestic sales, Maruti Suzuki is also exporting a decent number of cars overseas. The Indian passenger car giant has exported as many as 33,800 Balenos to countries like Japan and the European region in the past one year.

R S Kalsi, Maruti Suzuki’s executive director marketing and sales, commented on this achievement, stating: “Baleno is one of the big success stories of the Indian auto industry. Baleno carries our new design philosophy and is equipped with several high-end features and technologies like Apple CarPlay that have attracted young customers. Our engineers have ensured that built on an innovative new platform, Baleno offers superior ride and handling, besides best-in-class fuel efficiency. Safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD are standard in Baleno – another first for this segment. It is truly a symbol of Make-in-India.”

In addition to this, he also thanked the customers who have booked the car and will get delivery in the next few months. Interestingly, on the lines of the ‘Make In India’ mission, the Baleno is the first car that the manufacturer is exporting to markets like Japan. Furthermore, Maruti has plans to export the car to 100 other countries.
