Registers 1249 total unit sales in August 2010, evidently because of the Micra, which has seen impressive sales figures since its launch in July

When Nissan’s first Micra model rolled out of its Chennai plant in July this year, little did they know that the their small ‘jap hatch’ offering would fetch them such big results. Within just two months of its launch in India the fully automated hatch has driven Micra sails though the roof. Nissan’s total sales in the month of August are a clear indication of the Micra’s domination among Nissans luxury sedan and lifestyle SUV offerings in India.

On Thursday Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) announced that it has registered total sales of 1249 of its automobile units for the month of August 2010 as against a miniscule 22 units in August the previous year. This sudden rise in sales figures over the period of a single calendar year can be quite well comprehended when we discovered that out of the 1249 units Nissan has sold in August, the new Nissan Micra share of the pie was an astonishing 1182 units.

The Micra, which was officially launched by the Japanese auto maker in July this year has sold 254 units more in August than it did in the inaugural month. Nissan’s other offerings are no where close with the Teana, Nissan’s luxury sedan offering (CBU) selling 21 units, and the Nissan X-trail; Nissan’s lifestyle SUV (CBU) registering healthier sales of  44 units as compared to the last month. Nissan has also sold two of its iconic sports car, Nissan 370Z model in the same month. So far, the company has already sold four units of 370Z since its launch in January this year.

Owing to the overwhelming demand for the Micra’s top-end variant (XV), which comes with first time features ever to be seen in India’s small car segment, the company has decided to re-align its initial production schedule to cater to this growing need. This has led to increase in the delivery period, which the company hopes to control and manage in the coming months.  The sales order book for Nissan Micra has been progressively increasing and the company has already received around 3600 bookings. With the increasing footprint of its dealership network, the company hopes to have a far-reaching impact across the country.
