Michelin has launched its India-specific Energy XM2 tyre range that claims to offer improved safety and mileage. Available from 12-inch to 15-inch rim size, the Energy XM2 that replaces the XM1 tyre is touted to offer the right balance in performance whilst increasing safety, fuel efficiency and longevity. According to Michelin, the new tyre is 28 percent more fuel efficient due to the 8 percent reduction in rolling resistance and stops 1.7m shorter, proven by real-time tests on Meru cabs, a private taxi operator. The new model is also said to last 15 percent more thereby reducing the frequency of replacing tyres as well.
Thom Clark, Managing Director, Michelin India, said, “India is becoming increasingly mobile and vehicle parks are swelling through first-time car purchases, expected to grow CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 62 percent in the next five years. It is a significant market for the Energy XM2 that is aimed at the compact and entry-level mid-size passenger car, which represents the majority of the car market in India. The new tyre is the most recent tangible illustration of the performance balance that is the hallmark of all our tyres. The strength of the new Energy XM2 lies in the fact that it delivers three benefits – mileage, safety and fuel savings – all at the same time, without compromising on any other performance benefit.”
The new tyre incorporates Ironflex technology to offer a unique combination of flexibility and strength. Thanks to an optimised casing design, the Energy XM2 tyre effectively dissipates peak stresses generated upon contact with any type of road hazard. While targeting the mass market, the company has also kept into account the longevity of the tyre.
The new Michelin energy XM2 tyres will be available in prices ranging from Rs 2,475 to Rs 6,075.
