MG Motor has released yet another teaser video of its upcoming SUV, the Hector. Seen undergoing tests in the coastal regions of the country, the new video gives us a small glimpse of the Hector’s features. While the SUV is still covered in white camouflage, earlier spy shots have given us an indication of what the Hector will look like when launched.

The latest video shows the Hector’s remote keyless entry feature as well as the chunky key fob. We can also confirm that the upcoming MG SUV will feature a large sunroof that extends all the way over the rear seats. It further gets an auto day-night IRVM and a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, which we revealed as an exclusive back in February.

While we already know what the Hector’s LED DRLs look like thanks to older spy shots, the latest video gives us a glimpse of its quad-headlamp setup. What’s interesting here is that they look like LED units rather than the Xenon HID units seen on the Tata Harrier. The taillamps also get the LED treatment and sits flush with the bodywork. We also know that the Hector will feature a quarter glass between the blacked-out C- and D-pillars. The blacked-out effect also makes for a floating roof effect.

However, the USP of the Hector will be its claim of being a ‘connected SUV’. MG Motor claims that its upcoming SUV will be the most advanced in its segment. The Hector will feature its own operating system and a eSIM card through which it will be connected to India-based servers that give it enhanced features such as biometrics, navigation, traffic information, car health status, AI assistance and over-the-air updates.

As for the powertrain, the Hector will get the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine seen in the Compass and the Harrier. While MG Motor is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the motor, it produces 173PS and 350Nm in the Compass and 140PS and 350Nm in the Harrier. Unlike the Harrier, the Hector will also get a petrol engine option - a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that puts out 143PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque. Both engines will come with a 6-speed manual as standard while the petrol motor is likely get an optional 6-speed DCT.

MG Hector

The MG Hector will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. Expect it to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. And with the kind of features on offer, the MG Hector could very well be the next big contender in the segment.
