In 2015, Mercedes brought back the Maybach marque from the grave to take on super-luxurious brands such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Since both the British carmakers have convertible variants available for at least one of their offerings, it was just a matter of time that Maybach unveiled its recipe for people who literally like to show-off their wealth on the move.

Say hello to the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, which is the first ever fully-convertible car that wears a Maybach badge. There is a good chance that most of us won’t ever see one of these on road as the production is limited to only 300 units. As the name suggests, it builds upon the S65 AMG Cabriolet, an already bonkers convertible, garnishing it lavishly for people who have toilets made out of gold! Well, that’s a bit far-fetched but you get the idea!

Although the Maybach convertible’s aura isn’t about performance, Mercedes has ensured that there is enough grunt at disposal to leave just about everything in a dust-cloud, whenever you feel like. It is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine which is tuned to produce 621PS of power and 1001Nm of max torque. The massive engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and the power is sent to the rear wheels. It will crack 100kmph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top-speed of 250kmph without demanding much attention.

Over to the embellishments now. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet gets a new front bumper with an upgraded lower section and numerous chrome accents to highlight its exclusivity from the standard S65 AMG Cabriolet. The S650 gets 20-inch alloy-wheels and a bucket full of ‘Maybach’ emblems in and around the four-seater convertible. Inside, you get the chrome-plated ‘1 of 300’ badge on the centre console, thick floor mats and all the optional extras available on the S-Class Cabriolet, as standard. The interior trim is individually commissioned for each car in terms of colour and grain.

The mind-boggling attention to detail continues, as there is a four-piece luggage set, which is tailor-made to match the interior of each car. For a car so luxurious, a normal car cover won’t do. So, the Maybach S650 Cabriolet gets a diamond quilted car cover as well as a certificate signed by Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Moving on to the asking price, the Maybach costs 2,50,000 GBP, which in India translates to Rs 2.18 crore. So, the simple question is - one of these or a 2-BHK in Delhi?
