Ever felt like the rear seats of the S-Class were not so comfortable? Well, fret no more!

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been sometimes called the epitome of luxury on four wheels, but it seems there were some among the uber-rich who felt it was not so great in terms of rear-seat luxury. Mercedes-Benz has today launched the S-Class Connoisseur's Edition in two variants to alleviate those concerns.

While the S 350 d Connoisseur's Edition is priced at Rs 1.21 crore, the S 400 Connoisseur's Edition is priced at Rs 1.32 crore, ex-showroom Pune.

The highlight of the new S-Class Connoisseur's Edition - regardless of the engine chosen - is the executive rear seat. The rear left seatback on this car can be reclined to up 43.5 degrees and the thigh supports can be extended to help the passenger enjoy long journeys in absolute comfort. The adjustable seat, in conjunction with the 'chauffeur package' which consists of an electrically extending footrest, can provide the best possible posture for a person to sleep in - if they want to.

To make the experience even more soothing, the Connoisseur's Edition also comes with an 'air-balance' fragrance package. Customers can choose from six fragrances bottles which fit in a special generator in the glove compartment to keep the cabin smelling nice all the time. The S-Class Connoisseur's Edition also comes fitted with a hot stone massage function in the seats to make the drive even more relaxing.

If your relaxation routine also consists of listening to music, the S 350 d Connoisseur’s Edition is also fitted with a 13-speaker surround sound system from Burmester. The S 400, on the other hand, is fitted with a 24-speaker Burmester system!

The S 350 d is powered by a 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6 diesel motor developing 258PS of maximum power and 620Nm of torque. The S 400 is powered by a 3.0-litre, bi-turbo V6 petrol motor developing 334PS of maximum power and 480Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission with power sent to the rear wheels.

While the chauffeur can flex his/her toe muscles and make the S-Class move very briskly, the comfortable fully adjustable electric seats with 3-stage memory function and hot stone massaging function would keep him/her very calm.

Mercedes-Benz wants the occupants of the S-Class to be very safe. Thus, in addition to 8 airbags, an electronic stability program, dynamic cornering control system, brake assist, 360 degree surround view camera and an active park assist - the S-Class Connoisseur's Edition is also fitted with a night view assist plus features.

The system helps detect obstacles sooner, be it a pedestrian on the road or a wandering large animal, at night. If the system does detect said obstacle, it is highlighted on a special display on the 12.-3-inch digital instrument cluster. The all-LED headlamps also have a 'spotlight' function whereby it flashes a beam of light onto the obstacle - alerting both the driver and the pedestrian/animal. This is the first time that the system has been offered on an S-Class model in India.
