A one of its kind pickup

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Pickup Concept

Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled the X-Class concept, a preview of the German automaker's forthcoming mid-size pickup truck. This pickup truck will share its platform with the Nissan NP300 Navara and will be powered by an oil burner. The production version of the X-Class will be launched in late 2017, and will first arrive in international markets which include Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Australia with New Zealand, and Europe. The truck might not make its way to the US market.

The premium pickup will be available in two variants – powerful adventurer and the stylish explorer. Each variant will be representing the concept in a different perspective. The powerful adventurer, moreover, looks like a classic, tough pickup truck that will have great off-road capabilities, while, on the other hand, the stylish explorer looks more like a classy urban pickup truck. Mercedes will be offering both these variants under the X-Class. As per the official release, Daimler AG will “make investments in the high nine figures (euro) in the new model series” by the time both these cars are launched.

It will be a double-cab, 5-seater vehicle,  featuring up-swept headlamp clusters. The chassis will be built on a ladder-frame and the car will offer a payload capacity of 1.1 tons and a towing capacity of 3.5 tons.

Mechanical details are scarce, but the top-end variant will be powered by a V6 oil burner and the lower variants will get a 4-cylinder motor. The X-Class will also feature Mercedes 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) system and the AWD setup will include an electronic traction control system, a transfer case with a reduction gear, and two differential locks.

Just like the engine, details about the interiors are also scarce, but we think that the interior components and features will be shared with models like the C-Class and the V-Class. Some more features that the X-Class will include are -- Nappa leather upholstery, brushed and polished aluminium trim elements, a free-standing infotainment display, a central controller and a multifunctional touchpad.
