Do you like big, angry and loud muscle cars but don't trust the Americans? Worry not, ze Germans have a solution. Or maybe two.

Mercedes-AMG GT R

After making its mark as the fastest production car in India, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is all set to be launched in the country tomorrow. It is the maddest cousin of the AMG GT family and is also the fastest front-engined rear-wheel drive car to lap the Nurburgring. All these records are courtesy 585PS of power, rear-wheel-steering and a lot of downforce. Expect the 'Beast of the Green Hell’ to be priced around Rs 3.2 crore. If that's a bit much, Mercedes-AMG is also launching the drop top version of the sports car. The GT Roadster gets an additional 30Nm and 14PS over the standard coupe, and of course the option to tuck the roof away with the flick of a switch. We're expecting that to retail around Rs 2.85 crore. Cheaper. See?

Back to the GT R, the beast lies underneath its hood - a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 which makes 585PS of power and 700Nm of twisting force. These figures are 75PS/50Nm more than the GT S, which is no slouch either. Throw in the super quick 7-speed dual clutch transmission into the mix and the car rockets from 0 to 100kmph in just 3.6 seconds. The AMG GT Roadster, on the other hand, makes 476PS of power and 630Nm of torque from the same mill.

The AMG GT R is loaded with tech that works behind the scenes to prevent it from taking off. For example, there's a carbon fibre diffuser underneath the car which moves by 40mm when the speeds are between 80-250kmph, so as to reduce air lift. As this is a muscle car, one might assume it might shoot for the moon in corners. To tackle this, Mercedes has added rear-wheel-steering which, up to 100kmph, makes the wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This virtually reduces the turning radius and in effect - makes the GT R a lot agiler.

In India, the AMG GT R will go up against the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911 GT3. The GT Roadster will slug it out with the drop-top Porsche and the F-Type convertible. Ah, good old Euro-car rivalries!
