Maruti’s Nexa Retails Over 1 Lakh Cars In 1 Year

Since its inception a year ago, Maruti’s premium dealership chain, Nexa, has sold over one lakh cars. The Nexa line of showrooms was introduced to pull the manufacturer out of its 'mass-market car manufacturer' image for its new generation of premium cars. Nexa has, so far, introduced two premium products to consumers -- the S-Cross and the Baleno. Though the former introduced the brand to the country, it was the latter that helped Nexa consolidate its current position with high sales numbers.

In a year, the dealership count has jumped from 35-40 dealerships (at the time of introduction of the S-Cross) to 150 showrooms across the country, in 94 cities. Maruti is looking to expand the network to 250 outlets by March 2017, and also expects the Nexa channel to contribute as much as 15 percent of total Maruti sales by 2020. In numbers, it translates into around three lakh units from Nexa outlets.

The premium dealership chain has managed to sell a total of 1,00,025 units in a year, with the S-Cross contributing 28,795 units and the Baleno with a larger chunk of 71,230 units.

R.S. Kalsi, executive director (marketing & sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said, “To further enhance the purchase and ownership experience, we plan to provide customers enriching experiences beyond the showroom as well. We will curate new experiences around fashion and lifestyle, music and travel. These experiences will touch the lives of customers through international music festivals, fashion/styling sessions and long-distance drives. Rather than limit ourselves to selling cars, our aim is to forge relationships over the period of ownership.”
