Maruti Y9T LCV caught testing without camouflage

The Indian car manufacturer has a strong foothold in the country in the passenger car segment ever since its launch back in 1970. Maruti Suzuki is now gearing up to enter the commercial vehicle segment. The company is busy testing its first commercial vehicle codenamed ‘Y9T’ which will take the Tata Ace, Piaggio Ape Truk, Force Motors Trump and Mahindra Maxximo Plus head on as competition once launched.

Maruti Y9T LCV appears to be based on the Suzuki Carry which is sold in various markets across the world and is expected to be powered by an 800cc twin-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, the first to be developed by Maruti Suzuki. The Y9T LCV will therefore also be a proving ground for the Indian auto manufacturer’s new engine.

The LCV segment has seen a lucrative growth of 20 per cent in the last five years globally and Maruti Suzuki plans to leverage upon it. Maruti Y9T LCV is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2015, and will be manufactured at the company’s Gurgaon plant where most of the auto manufacturer’s passenger vehicles are manufactured.
