Maruti Suzuki S-Cross saw a steady rise in its sales figures after the manufacturer slashed prices recently

Sales rise post price slash

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Maruti’s premium crossover despite being quite a decent car had quite a slow start in terms of sales figures. Deemed too expensive, the car didn’t find many buyers initially but after the recent price cut ranging from Rs 40,000-2.0lakh depending on the variant, the sales of the S-Cross are on the rise. So much so that the S-Cross has sold over 21,500 units in the past seven months. Which is a good number considering that it faces stiff competition from the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster.

According to Maruti, the company is also exporting the S-Cross to Bhutan and Nepal as pilot markets and the next step will be determined on the feedback they get from the said countries. The S-Cross is only available with diesel engines, the frugal 1.3-litre engine and the rev happy 1.6-litre unit. And the 1.6-litre variants amount to 15-16 percent of the total S-Cross sales volume. According to Randhir Singh Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, the price cut has really influenced buying decisions of customers. In addition he also states that in the near future with 120 Nexa outlets in over 70 cities, the company expects a rise in the demand of the S-Cross.

The 1.3L (DDiS 200) version is priced between Rs 8.03 lakh and Rs 10.60 lakh whereas the 1.6L (DDiS 320) version is priced between Rs 10.23 lakh and Rs 12.03 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
