Maruti Suzuki seems to be conducting the final round of testing for the upcoming Ignis. We spotted a fully camouflaged mule on test, that appeared to be production-ready.
The Ignis has been the talk of the town of late. It is slated to be the second hatchback to be sold under Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa banner, alongside the popular Baleno. The hatchback follows a tallboy design and will carry a lot of upmarket features to supplement its premium positioning. We could spot features such as keyless entry, black alloy wheels and door-mounted mirrors with integrated blinkers. Notably, the spied mule looks nearly identical to the concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo, held in Delhi earlier this year. The concept also had features such as projector headlamps, LED tail lamps and a pair of roof rails, which can be expected to make it to the production version as well.
On the inside, reports suggest that the upcoming Ignis is likely to feature a high-end Harman Kardon music system paired with a touchscreen infotainment unit. The concept also showed off features such as automatic climate control, colour-coded door handles and centre console, steering mounted audio controls and a lot more.
The Ignis is most likely to feature the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel, just like most of its hatchback siblings. That said, we cannot rule out the possibility of a 1.0-litre Boosterjet just yet. Transmission duties are expected to be carried out by a 5-speed manual, and an optional CVT variant is likely to be on the cards as well.
Rumoured to launch around the festive season, the Ignis will slot in below the Baleno in Maruti's Nexa lineup. Prices are expected to start around the Rs 4 lakh mark, for the base-spec petrol.
