The thirst for more and more power is growing rapidly in the market, for that thirst to quench new hot hatches have been introduced. Joining the two existing offerings from Volkswagen and Fiat in the hatchback segment will be the recently Spotted Baleno RS. Maruti showcased the Baleno RS concept at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.

Testing of the Baleno started in December last year, however, the production-spec Baleno has been spotted testing in Mumbai. Along With the Polo GT TSi, VW had started the production of their popular turbocharged petrol hatchbacks in the country. Fiat has recently contributed to the same with the Abarth Punto, which is currently the most powerful car in the segment. After its launch, the Baleno RS will compete with the two.

The introduction of the rear disk brakes is a great idea and to see our manufacturers bring about such changes is really amazing. However, the rival of the Baleno RS, the VW Polo GT TSi, uses a disc-drum set-up. This turbocharged 1.0-litre engine produces 110PS and 170Nm of torque, which is enough power for the car to accelerate from 0-100kmp in just 4 seconds. Now you will understand why extra stopping power is required. Other than the brakes, the Baleno is expected to get a higher suspension, so that it becomes easy along the hard corners. As seen in the test mule the front grille is slightly different than the standard Baleno. Other than the grille, the rear discs, and the alloy wheels, no other changes were spotted on the test mule. Along with that the top-spec Baleno gets projector headlamps, LED tail lamps and blinkers on the wing mirrors.

The Baleno RS will go on sale during the festive season, and as far as the price is concerned, Maruti might just undercut the VW Polo GT TSi and start around the Rs 8 lakh mark.
