The Malaguti Drakon 125 concept could soon go into production

Back in 2019, Italian bikemaker Malaguti presented its Drakon 125 concept. Now, the patent images of the Drakon have surfaced, hinting that it's nearing production.

To jog your memories, you may remember Malaguti as the maker of the MR250, which served as a blueprint for the Mahindra Mojo 300 and gave the Mojo its standout twin gold tube frame. This happened after Mahindra acquired Engines Engineering, the designers of the MR250 concept. With that out of the way, let’s talk about the Drakon.

When showcased, the Drakon concept borrowed components from different bikes like the Aprilia-based 125cc motor and the tubular steel frame from Malaguti’s Monte Pro bike.

However, the production variant will bear some changes. According to the patent images, the Drakon 125 will get a revised 125cc, water-cooled engine. The cradle-style frame also seems to have undergone changes, mainly to accommodate the revised heart.

Unsurprisingly, the patent shows pillion footpegs and a revised swingarm to house the number plate, all of which is mandatory for a production bike.

Thankfully, what has remained unchanged is the radical styling. From head to toe, the Drakon 125 looks sharp, minimalistic and futuristic. In addition, the patents also give us a vague idea about the features on the Drakon since we can clearly see a big rectangular instrument cluster, a USD fork, single disc brakes at both ends, and 10-spoke alloy wheels. Expect full LED illumination and ABS to be part of the package too.

Judging from the patents, the Drakon 125 is surely aimed at the KTM 125 Duke, Yamaha MT125 and the Honda CB125R. But what remains to be seen now is whether the Drakon can match these bikes in the real world.
