Earlier this week, Indian auto giant Mahindra Group's South African subsidiary, Mahindra South Africa (SA) introduced the Xylo, a multipurpose vehicle in its respective market. The Xylo range for the South African market consists of the luxury model, the E8, and the people mover, the E2. Introduced in Indian in January this year, the Xylo is a multipurpose vehicle that offers good space and practicality. The Mahindra group has invested more than 100 million USDs for the development of the Xylo. The company deployed an all-new robotic body shop at the Nashik facility and has also installed an additional trim line at the final assembly shop. Extensive research has gone in making the Xylo and over 200 molds and more than 1000 new parts were developed for this MPV.

Mahindra Group forayed into the South Africa in October 2004 and over the past five years it has made its presence felt in this region's vehicle market with more than thirty dealers. South Africa is one of the biggest and ever-expanding vehicle markets today. Mahindra Group has already ventured out in suburban countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia. Mahindra SA also has strong presence in the agricultural market with a range of products that include tractors.

"The Xylo symbolizes the creation of a completely new vehicle platform in the Mahindra stable. The vehicle is a truly global people carrier and we are delighted to launch it in South Africa, which is a strategic market for Mahindra's overall globalization strategy," said Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Chairman, Mahindra South Africa

"South Africa was also the venue for the first international launch of the Mahindra Scorpio pick-up range of products which were specifically designed and developed for the overseas market and was very well received by customers in South Africa. Mahindra South Africa has achieved significant growth since it was established in 2004 and the Xylo with its unique value proposition of rugged utility and style will help us further consolidate our presence in the region," said Mr. Pravin Shah, Executive Vice President, International Operations, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

"Mahindra South Africa's commitment is as much driven by exceptional value-for-money and after sales service, as by Mahindra's unique business model which specifically focuses on the needs and expectations of our customers. We believe that the Xylo is the right product at the right price - even in these challenging market conditions, as it offers outstanding value. In fact, we see it as the new benchmark in people mobility," said Mr. Vijay Nakra, Chief Executive, Mahindra South Africa.
