Mahindra has already teased this Black Edition and it is expected to be launched anytime soon.

Quick Highlights

  • Mahindra Scorpio N Black Edition spotted at dealership.
  • It is likely to be based on the top-spec Z8 L variant.
  • Design updates include a black theme with blacked-out alloys, a grey skid plate and all-black upholstery inside.
  • No mechanical changes. Gets the same petrol and diesel engine options

Going mean and sinister with a dark all-black look is a trend pursued by several carmakers lately. We’ve seen this for multiple Tata cars, a popular Hyundai SUV and even with Mahindra recently when they introduced a Boss edition for the Scorpio Classic with a similar dark theme. This time the Indian marque is set to launch the Scorpio N Black Edition, giving the car more dominance and a bad-boy road presence at least in terms of style.

Mahindra first begins by teasing a dark shade on Instagram:

Well, before the official launch, we’ve already spotted the new mean-looking Scorpio N in a dealership. And seeing it closely, we can tell that the changes are mostly cosmetic and it continues with a similar set of features and powertrain options. Here’s a closer look at the OG SUV for you.

Design

Take a regular Scorpio N and paint it all black. That is pretty much the new thing with this edition. Nothing too significantly observable especially at the front with the same LED lighting, chrome accents over the grille and light surrounds. The noticeable change is the dark grey silver plate which happens to be light silver in the regular model.

The silhouette remains familiar until you search for any sort of contrast. The silver finishes on the body cladding and roof rails, the chrome surrounds below the window panels and the body-coloured ORVM are all turned black. In fact, it sits on completely blacked-out alloy wheels now instead of the dual-tone.

At the rear, the LED taillight design is also the same. The door handle gets a dark chrome finish and you can find a similar dark grey skid plate at the bottom just like the front end.

Interior And Features

The interior wears a similar sinister black theme. The upholstery gets a black/grey theme and the dashboard layout remains similar with silver surrounds for the centre console, AC vents and also on the door holders. You can find slight chrome touches on the steering wheel as well as some silver finish on its two spokes.

There are no certain feature upgrades on this edition and you get all the equipment available with the top-spec Scorpio N like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 7-inch instrument cluster, wireless phone charger with cooling function, ventilated front seats with 6-way power adjustment for driver side, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, 12-speaker Sony sound system, steering mounted audio and calling controls, rear wiper, washer, demister and auto headlights.

As for safety, the Scorpio N gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold/descent control, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and ISOFIX.

Powertrain

The Scorpio N Black Edition will be available in both turbo-petrol and diesel engine options and the specification will remain the same.

Price And Rivals

The standard model of Mahindra Scorpio N is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 24.69 lakh (ex-showroom) while the top-spec Z8 L variant starts from Rs 20.7 lakh (ex-showroom). You can expect a slight premium over these standard prices for the special Black Edition.

The Mahindra Scorpio N Black Edition can be a smart move for Mahindra in India. Many buyers, especially young people, love blacked-out cars because they look bold and have a better road presence. Since the Scorpio N is already popular, this edition can attract even more customers who want a premium-looking SUV. Plus, Mahindra didn’t have to make big changes to the car. This makes it a win-win for both the company and buyers.
