The recall is to inspect the placement of the fluid hose in the engine compartment

While proactive vehicle recalls do increase our confidence in carmakers looking for safety or technical concerns that might plague their offerings, they also raise questions as to why the problem is there in the first place. South Korean carmaker SsangYong recently recalled its only offering in India, the Rexton, to check for a suspected fault in the rear drive-shaft. This time around, it is SsangYong’s parent company Mahindra that has initiated a recall for two of its SUVs - the new-gen Scorpio and NuvoSport - in India.

The homegrown carmaker wants to check the placement of the fluid hose under the hood of the two SUV models - only the ones which were manufactured until June 2016. The company did not specify the number of vehicles under the recall campaign but shared that the inspection and rectification, if required, will be carried out free of cost. Customers who had bought either of the SUVs in question from the suspected lot will be contacted individually by Mahindra for an appointment to carry out the fix.

"As an endeavour to ensure a hassle free experience for its customers, the company is proactively carrying out this activity. This action is also in compliance with SIAM's (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) voluntary code on vehicle recall," M&M said.

While the sub-4 metre NuvoSport was launched in April earlier this year, the bigger and more powerful new-gen Scorpio was launched in September 2014.
