After clinching a nail-biting podium finish and clocking the fastest lap at the inaugural race of Season 3 in Hong Kong, Mahindra Racing is all set for the second round of the 2016-17 FIA Formula E Championship. The Marrakesh ePrix is the second race to be held in the city of Marrakesh. The team is looking forward to a repeat or even an improvement of performance as compared to that in the previous round.
It is the first time a Formula E Championship will be held in the African continent during the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP22). The Marrakesh ePrix is the second of the five new venues on the 12-race championship calendar. To be held in 10 countries, the event aims to further highlight vehicle technology development in the world’s first fully-electric global racing series.
The Marrakesh circuit is a semi-permanent street track of 2.971km located south of the city. The event will be hosted at the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan. The race will be held on November 12, 2016 and will have two practice sessions, qualifying round and the race, all on the same day. The track has been previously used by World Touring Car Championship which gives the teams a chance to prepare better for the race at the new location.
Speaking on the upcoming Marrakesh ePrix, Dilbagh Gill, team principal, Mahindra Racing Formula E Team said: “We had a good beginning to the season at the opening round of the FIA Formula E 2016-17 Championship last month, but there are still areas to improve on. Marrakesh is our next chance to do just that and I’m really excited to see our team move forward once again. Nick was able to capitalise on a great start, move up the field and expertly manage his energy in Hong Kong. While Felix’s first race didn’t exactly go to plan, his pace was quicker than the pole lap and we remain confident in his ability to deliver a good race result in Marrakesh. For Formula E, it’s an exciting time and the partnership with COP22 will only enhance the sport’s bright future. We are looking forward to putting on a show for the world’s climate leaders.”
