Expect cars like the Stinger to come to India as the carmaker plans to have some CKD models in its lineup

Kia made quite a grand entrance at the Auto Expo 2018 by showcasing its entire lineup of cars. Unfortunately, the cars were for display purposes only and Kia even announced that the first car arriving in India would be based on the SP concept SUV showcased at the Expo. Now, however, Kia has made some key announcements that will appeal to discerning customers and enthusiasts alike.

Kia’s first manufacturing facility in India, which will manufacture the yet unnamed SUV based on the SP concept, is now under development and the carmaker has just finished the framework installation of the plant. The plant, located in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, covers an area of 23 million square feet and has an installed production capacity of 3 lakh cars per annum. It is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2019 with production set to begin later this year. It will be the first Kia plant to manufacture the SP concept-based SUV which will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur and Duster in India. Another important announcement made by Kia is that post the launch of the compact SUV, the carmaker will have another India-specific product in its lineup in the next 18-24 months The carmaker, however, refused to divulge more about the second offering. What we definitely know is that Kia will introduce more cars in quick succession as it plans to have some CKD offerings in its India lineup as well.
