Kia has teased its first dedicated all-electric vehicle, the EV6 crossover. Based on the carmaker’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV6 will be the first out of the seven new EVs under its ‘Plan-S’ strategy. The wraps will be off the EV6 by the end of the first quarter and it should be globally revealed by the end of March.
Details are scarce at the moment, but Kia has given us some insight into the naming strategy for its upcoming all-electric models. In a bid to keep things simple, the carmaker has decided all its electric models will begin with the prefix EV followed by a number that will signify the model’s position in the lineup. So, the EV6 could be one of the more premium models in Kia’s electric lineup.
Based on the teaser images, we can say the EV6 means business. The sloping roofline makes it look sporty while the sleek tail lamps run through the width of the crossover. The LED headlamps come with Audi-esque LED DRLs. The EV6 will also be the first all-electric Kia to bear the carmaker’s new logo.
Technical specifications are yet to be revealed, but the EV6 will be capable of covering 500km in a single charge. Should you run out of juice, 20 minutes is all it will take to top up the battery! It will also come with Highway Driving Pilot (HDP) level 3 autonomous driving tech, so your drives on the motorway should be more relaxed as well as safer.
The EV6 will kickstart Kia’s electric journey aimed at a 40 percent target sales of EV, PHEVs, and HEVs by the end of 2030.
