It was a treat for motorsport fans who had gathered at Kari Motor Speedway to witness Round 1 of the 16th JK Tyre Racing Championship which included three classes namely JK Racing India Series, Formula LGB and the Polo R Cup

Starting grid of the JK Racing India Series

JK Racing India Series:

The newly introduced JK Racing India Series gives youngsters below the age of 20 a platform to showcase their mettle and provides 12 of the country’s budding race talent an opportunity to race in the FB02 racing machines. These cars are powered by a 1.2-litre engine sourced from a BMW bike and employs a Mygale chassis. Akhil Khushlani dominated the Race1 of the class as he stomped his authority to take an easy win. In Race 2, Khushlani made a brilliant start which allowed him to create sufficient breathing between him and the other drivers.

He was able to further widen the gap with every passing lap and crossed the finish line with a whopping margin of 14.620 seconds over Chitesh Mandody in second place. Following them in third place was Akhil Rabindra. Race 3 saw other drivers on the grid picking up pace and giving some stiff competition to Khushlani in the early stages but he was able hold them off and breakway from the trailing pack to register his third consecutive victory. The bulk of the action was witnessed in the fight for second in which Vishnu Prasad was able to maintain his composure to pip Arjun Maini to secure the second step on the podium.

Starting grid of the Formula LGB 4

Formula LGB 4:

The Formula LGB 4 introduced last year to the championship witnessed its fare share of action too. In Race 1, Ajay Kini who qualified on pole made a quick start to build a sizeable lead on Sarosh Hataria in second place. But Kini wasn’t able to maintain his lead for long as he was passed by Hataria and the duo kept on shuffling the lead among them. The turning point of the race came when Kini bumped into Hataria, which resulted in him running wide off the track. Although Kini was the first to cross the finish line, a 10-second penalty was imposed on him for this incident which meant he was demoted to sixth place whereas Vishnu Prasad was disqualified due to an underweight car. This resulted in Saran Vikram being declared the winner and following him in second and third position was Kartik Krishna and Tejas Ram Averipakam.

In Race 2, it was Saran Vikram who led the race till lap 5 before Ajay Kini overtook him for the lead. The duo were closely followed by Sarosh Hataria in third. Kini was again involved in an incident and this time Vikram was his victim. Because of this collision Hataria was able to win the race and was followed by Saran in second whereas Kini was forced to retire. Completing the podium was Vishnu Prasad just half a second behind Saran. The final race of the LGB 4 class was undeniably the most thrilling race of the day as only three seconds separated the top three riders. It was Sarosh Hataria who utilised his home-town advantage to the max as he was able to maintain his poise to clinch victory against the hard charging duo of Vishnu Prasad and 2012 JK Tyre Rotax Max National Karting Champion Ameya Bafna.
