Kawasaki today launched another off-road motorcycle in India. Instead of the mid-sized base version of the KLX140 that was announced to be launched, the Japanese has brought the full-sizes KLX140G version of the bike with a price tag of Rs 3.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Now, the new trail-ready motorcycle will be joining the KLX110 off-roading bike for kids at the Kawasaki showroom in India, along with the two motocross offerings -- the KX100 and the KX250F.
The Kawasaki KLX140G is based on a box-section perimeter frame that is derived from the motocross KX series. The front is suspended on 33mm telescopic forks providing a travel of 190mm, while the rear features a Uni-Trak shock with a piggyback reservoir offering 200mm of wheel travel. Moreover, the rear unit is fully adjustable with preload, 4-way compression damping and 22-way rebound damping, making it one of the most versatile machines you can buy in the country.
The bike runs on lightweight and durable 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels sporting off-road tyres. The lightweight chassis, full-size wheels and tyres combination gives it excellent manoeuvrability, making it a joy ride even for the experienced riders. Braking duties are handled by a 220mm front and a 190mm rear petal disc brake which are claimed to provide progressive feedback.
Coming to the heart of the Kawasaki KLX140G, it houses a 144cc air-cooled, 4-stroke engine that comes mated to a 5-speed transmission via a manual clutch assembly. The clutch offers 2-stage engagement that facilitates half-clutch use when riding at extremely low rpm or idling speeds. The muffler also comes equipped with a spark arrester to prevent the emission of flammable debris and the keyless ignition with an electric start further makes the bike ideal for almost any level rider.
The Kawasaki KLX140G has a seat height of 860mm, which is impressive for an off-roading machine that offers a ground clearance of 315mm. Weight is one of the most important factors in this segment and the KLX140G weighs just 99 kg, which is very light for a full-size 150cc bike in its class. Kawasaki is the only manufacturer to offer so many versatile off-roading and motocross bikes officially in the country, and the competition is far behind in this regard. We would really like to see competition from the other established players in this niche segment, like KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha, coming in the market in the near future.
