The retro-styled motorcycles will now be offered with dual-channel ABS as an optional extra

  • Dual-channel ABS will be an optional variant
  • Priced at a premium of Rs 8,942 over single-channel variant
  • Jawa dealerships have started exchange programmes at existing dealerships
  • Classic Legends says those who’ve booked the single-channel ABS version can upgrade to the new variant
  • Earlier this month, we had reported that Jawa is planning to launch dual-channel ABS for its motorcycles. Now, the company has confirmed the same in an official announcement. The Jawa and the Jawa Forty Two dual-channel ABS will carry a premium of Rs 8,942 over their single-channel ABS equipped versions.

Currently, the single-channel ABS variants of the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two are priced at Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh, respectively (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). These bikes (Jawa & Jawa Forty Two) use a 280mm front disc and a 153mm rear drum, with a single-channel ABS. The addition of dual-channel ABS is a good move by the brand as they work on both the wheels and are much safer than a single-channel unit. Also, the dual-channel ABS variant will get a rear disc brake which will improve the stopping power of the motorcycles.

Classic Legends officials have, however, said that deliveries for the single-channel ABS Jawa bikes will commence first. Meanwhile, customers who have booked the single-channel ABS versions will be given the opportunity to upgrade to the dual-channel versions. Further, they will be given priority over new bookings as far as deliveries are concerned.

Customers can book the dual-channel ABS Jawa motorcycles online or at authorised dealerships. Deliveries for the dual-channel Jawa and Forty Two will commence only after June 2019. The company hasn’t specified whether the single-channel ABS bikes can be retrofitted with a dual-channel unit yet.

Apart from the announcement of dual-channel ABS for its bikes, Classic Legends has also started an exchange programme at existing and upcoming Jawa dealerships across the country. The exchange programme will be handled by ‘Mahindra First Choice Wheels’. The exchange programme is open for all motorcycles from rival brands

The Jawa offerings are powered by a Mahindra Mojo-derived 293cc engine, which has been reworked to suit the characteristics of the new motorcycle. The single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor churns out 27PS and 28Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox.

The Jawa and Jawa Forty Two compete with the Royal Enfield Classic 350 ABS. We recently rode both the Jawa and the Forty Two and you can read the review report here - Jawa & Jawa Forty Two: First Ride Review
