What Is Jawa’s Upcoming Perak Bobber Going To Be Like?

Here’s what to expect from Jawa’s much-awaited third model

After all the hiccups along the way, Jawa is all set to launch its Perak bobber next week. So let’s take a look at what we can expect from Jawa’s much-awaited third model:


The Perak is designed to be a bobber, so while it may look quite similar to the Jawa up until the tank, things are drastically different from there onwards. The rear suspension is similar to the ‘swinging cage’ design seen on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber, and the rear shock has been neatly tucked away under the rear seat. This gives the Perak a hardtail chopper look while still offering rear suspension.

The overhanging rider’s seat looks extremely neat, and the long, sleek rear fender moves up and down with the wheel, as a result of which it can hug the tyre very closely. The tail lamp is nestled underneath the rider’s seat while the rear indicators are mounted on the sides of the fender, giving the rear of the motorcycle a very clean look. Jawa has also thrown in some very classic round bar-end mirrors that look quite cool, though we’ll have to see how functional they are once we get our hands on the bike.


While The Jawa and the 42 are powered by a 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor, the Perak will get a 334cc mill. This is essentially the same engine as before but slightly bored out, hence the increase in displacement. Jawa has mentioned that its motor is BS6-ready, and perhaps in the Perak we could see it in a BS6-compliant form for the first time. In the Perak, this engine will put out 30.4PS and 31Nm - 3PS and 3Nm more than the smaller Jawas.


The Perak’s basic frame seems to employ the same double cradle design as the smaller Jawas. However, as mentioned above, the rear swingarm is different, and it is significantly longer than on the smaller bikes. As a result of this, the wheelbase and overall length of the bike have increased considerably. The Perak is suspended on a conventional front fork and preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Braking hardware is the same as that seen on the current dual-channel ABS Jawas, with a 280mm front disc assisted by a 240mm rear disc.


Jawa had previously announced a price of Rs 1.89 lakh for the Perak, but this was around a year ago. Taking into account inflation as well as the cost of making the Perak meet BS6 emission norms, we expect a small increase in the price of the bobber.
