With the RACEMO unveiled, Tata has hinted towards two more vehicles based on the MOFlex platform. So, will these cars be the future of TAMO, or there is something more?

TAMO RACEMO

Tata is leaving no stone unturned to change its image in the market. The maufacturer slowly shed skin as a commercial vehicle manufacturer when it debuted the Indica back in 1998. Over the years, Tata has consistently delivered new products keeping in tune with the times. Though these were good (and practical) everyday cars, they still lacked  the 'wow' factor. Enter TAMO. Tata's gateway to low investment, low volume products. At the Geneva Motor Show, TAMO unveiled its first mid-engined sports coupe - the TAMO RACEMO. And boy, did it get our pulse racing!

With the RACEMO, Tata has also debuted the MOFlex, a flexible mid-engined rear-wheel-drive platform. Now, with the potential this platform has, it makes the journalist inside me ask - what next? Luckily, Tata has hinted at the future cars based on the MOFlex. In the AV clip which was played at the Geneva Motor Show, there were a total of three car concepts - Move, Fun and Race. In the clip we see the RACE concept becoming RACEMO, and later, the FUN concept also becoming a car, but with no further information apart from the phrase 'Mo To Come'. Going by Tata's new naming strategy, RACEMO's siblings could be called 'FUNMO' and 'MOVEMO'. Let's explore the possibility.

TAMO FUNMO

Just as the RACEMO is based on the RACE concept of the platform, the FUNMO will be based on the Fun concept. Tata has given glimpses of the car and it looks like a mini-SUV coupe (think of a scaled down BMW X6). It gets bigger wheels, a more imposing stance and a taller ground clearance than the RACEMO. It could end up becoming a compact lifestyle vehicle and by the looks of it, a handsome one.

Also, with Tata specifically ending the clip with the 'MOVEMO' concept and stating that there is 'MO' to come, could this be the next car from TAMO? We certainly hope so.

TAMO C-Cube

Do you remember the C-Cube? A compact concept car which Tata used to showcase their collaboration with Microsoft towards developing their "advanced connected features and the digital ecosystem" in TAMO products. It's hard to ignore the similarities in the design of the C-Cube and the Move concept of the MOFlex platform. Though the car looks different, it could be because the C-Cube is just a concept and may not be based on the MOFlex platform.

TAMO MOVEMO

The future of the C-Cube could very well be based on the Move concept. As of now, only the silhouette of the Move has been showcased and its resemblance to the C-Cube does raise our suspicions.

Food For Thought

TAMO

The Tata Nano has not been able to convert its popularity into sales. One of the reasons of this was its marketing strategy of being the cheapest car in the country. With the Fun concept, Tata could build a new-generation Nano, which will no longer target the bottom-end of the car marker, but aim to be a bit more premium. MOFlex being a rear-wheel-drive platform also enables Tata to keep the fun aspect of the Nano together while taking the car to a new level in terms of its appeal, possibly along the lines of a desi Smart Fortwo. If so, Tata will have to completely re-write its role in the Indian car market. And the good thing is, it has already begun.
