The MG G10 is expected to launch in India by late 2020, and will lock horns with the Kia Carnival

  • New 2.0-litre diesel engine gives better performance than the replaced 1.9-litre.

  • 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine discontinued.

  • The new diesel engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

  • 2.0-litre diesel is shared with the upcoming Gloster SUV, but the Gloster has a twin turbo version.

The Maxus G10, or for the Indian market, the MG G10 MPV, has received some engine updates in its Chinese version. The diesel front sees a new 2.0-litre replacement in place of the 1.9-litre engine. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine is now the sole petrol option as the 2.4-litre naturally aspirated motor has been discontinued.

While this could be a sign of things to come on Indian soil, the new 2.0-litre diesel engine is almost the same as the bi-turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine offered in the India-bound MG Gloster, with the only difference being the single turbocharger. The engine produces 163PS and 375Nm, which is 13PS and 25Nm more than its predecessor. It is paired with two transmission options: one, the existing 6-speed manual transmission and the other, the newly introduced 8-speed automatic transmission. Earlier, the automatic diesel G10 was available with a 6-speed unit.

The existing 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 224PS and 350Nm with the rear wheels driven by either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Maxus offering was earlier available as a 7- and 9-seater car and will now see the addition of an 8-seater layout. When the car hits Indian shores, it is expected to do so in the form of a premium MPV. It is expected to host features such as a 3-part panoramic sunroof, a large infotainment system, powered front seats, and powered sliding rear doors,

The MG G10 debuted in India at the Auto Expo 2020. It was slated for a launch late in 2020, but with the current global pandemic situation, the launch could be pushed to next year. The MPV will directly compete with the Kia Carnival.

MG is also set to release the full-size, body-on-frame Gloster SUV rivalling the Toyota Fortuner  in India during the festive season as planned.
