Suzuki has revealed the production version of the Ignis at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The car earlier made its world debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Now, the Japanese automaker has detailed the production version (European-Spec) of the Ignis at the Paris motor show. The India-bound version is also likely to remain the same as the European one.
Design wise, the production-spec version will stay true to the concept. On the outside, the Ignis will feature LED projector headlamps along with daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED tail lamps too. In the European market, the car will be offered in fourteen colour options including two-tone offerings – five two-tone colour (with a black roof) options – similar to the Vitara Brezza being sold in our market. Maruti Suzuki will mostly offer two-tone colour options for the Indian version of the Ignis as well.
Speaking about the interiors, the Ignis will be featuring the aforementioned two-tone layout (black and white) with two accent colours (orange and titanium). The infotainment system will be an updated version of Suzuki’s 7-inch SmartPlay unit with SD navigation and Bluetooth phone integration. The Ignis’ 7-inch unit will also come with Google Android Auto support along with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Apart from that, the car also offers a big boot (267-litres), which gets even more spacious in the AllGrip (all-wheel-drive) version. It will also feature sliding rear seats along with reclining seatbacks. Notably, the India-bound Ignis is most likely to get all these features.
Mechanically, the European-spec Ignis will come with a 1.2-litre DualJet (K12C), naturally aspirated engine, capable of producing 90PS of power and a peak 120Nm of torque. This will be mated with a five-speed manual transmission as standard which will power the front wheels. The car will also come with an optional five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
Meanwhile, the India-bound Ignis will be offered with the 1.2-litre motor (K12B) from the Baleno and the Swift, that churns out 84.3PS of power and 115Nm of torque. There might be an oil burner option, most probably in the form of the 1.3-litre DDiS190 (Fiat’s Multijet), producing 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque. Transmission options will be a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. Moreover, it is highly unlikely that the automaker will offer the AllGrip (AWD) in India.
Maruti Suzuki, in an official release, stated that the Ignis will go on sale in the first month of 2017 in Europe and later on, in other markets. The Ignis will hit the Indian shores early next year and it will be sold through the Nexa range of dealerships across the nation.
