India Speed Week Drag Racing Event To Be held In Kolkata

The adrenalin-packed three-day event will take place on an airstrip from December 9-11

India Speed Week 2016 (ISW) is a three-day drag racing event that will be held on an airstrip in Kolkata. It is for the first time that drag racing teams and speedsters across various automobile segments and categories will be seen competing with each other in Kolkata. The event will be governed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and managed by Elite Octane Inc. Drag Racing at India Speed Week will be in the quarter mile format. The fastest to cover a quarter mile distance on the runway will be titled the winner in that category.

The ISW will have the presence of renowned personalities like Baichung Bhutia, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, who will be present at the flag-off and across the power-packed three days of the energetic event.

Commenting on the event, Amit Modi, chairman, India Speed Week said: “We are thrilled to announce an event so grand. We plan to exhibit this large scale affair by showcasing the best in drag racing, auto exhibitions, adventure sports and entertainment across the three days of India Speed Week. Public Roads, no matter how deserted or controlled can never match the safety, peace of mind and thrill of an airstrip. The zestful show, in a never been seen before the format, will celebrate extravaganza, adrenaline and glamour.”

The event will witness the participation of both cars and bikes. The categories will be bifurcated depending on the engine capacity of the vehicles, range from stock to the open class. Categories will also be decided depending upon the level of modifications carried out on the vehicles. Starting from the air filter and header changes, the categories go up to turbocharged and NOS-induced setups.

Arrangements will be made to ensure the safety of the spectators and the competitors, including rescue, firefighting and medical support on the race days. Tickets to the event will be available from November 1, which can also be booked through www.bookmyshow.com portal.
