The Hyundai Venue has just landed on our shores. Priced aggressively, the sub-4m SUV gets a whole array of variants and engine options. Here is a detailed look at what the baby Creta has to offer.

Hyundai Venue

Hyundai has launched the much-anticipated Venue in India with an impressive introductory pricing that starts at just Rs 6.50 lakh, extending all the way up to Rs 11.11 lakh for the top-spec variant. Betting big on its multiple engine choices and Blue Link connected tech, the Venue is entering one of the most crowded segments in India which has competition from every major player. The more established rivals for the Venue include the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. From the looks of it, Hyundai has played the price card right with the Venue. However, it must be noted that these are introductory prices and would be revised later.

Powering the Venue are three engines. The 1.4-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol motor come mated to a 6-speed manual and a 5-speed manual gearboxes. The all-new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Kappa T-GDI petrol motor comes paired with a first-in-class 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The Venue comes in multiple variant and engine-transmission combinations, a total of 13 to be precise! The variants on offer include the E, S, SX, SX(O), and the top-spec SX+ that is available only with the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine with the 7-speed DCT.

So amidst all these, which variant should you consider? Here is a complete breakdown of the Venue’s variants on offer:

1.Hyundai Venue E
Price Range: Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

Hyundai has priced the entry-level Venue very aggressively, even undercutting all its rivals, except the similarly priced Tata Nexon, at Rs 6.50 lakh. How? This question can be answered by taking a look at the feature list of the ‘E’ variant. The base-spec ‘E’ variant is a barebones version with no commendable features worth talking about. For example, it misses out on the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a lot of essential kit. It doesn't come with power windows for the rear, audio system, rear defogger, body coloured ORVMs, shark fin antenna, rear parcel tray, luggage lamp, passenger vanity mirror and many more. The attractive pricing comes at a cost and that trade off is pretty significant.

What it gets, though, are the set of standard safety features which include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, seatbelt reminder, rear parking sensors, and speed and crash sensing auto door lock/unlock. It also features some basic creature comforts such as air conditioning, tilt steering, front power windows, front 12V outlet and a tachometer. So unless you’re on a very tight budget, it would be best to pass on the base variant of the Venue.Tata has also followed the same route with the Nexon’s base XE variant, which is also sparsely specced.

2.Hyundai Venue S

Price Range: Rs 7.20 lakh to Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

The S variant is a step up from the barebones ‘E’ variant. All three engines are available with this variant and the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine can also be opted for with a 7-speed DCT. The interior is available in two specifications: black single tone and khaki dual tone, but it misses out on the denim dual tone option. The other major misses are the 8.0-inch touchscreen, Blue Link and its connected features, 16-inch alloy wheels, 4 airbags, automatic headlamps, cruise control, smart key, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, etc.

What it gets over the E variant:

The interiors are available with all three colour combinations: black single dual tone, khaki dual tone option, and denim dual tone option (only available with dual-tone exterior colour). As for the goodies, it comes amply loaded with all the essential kit. Some of the misses are ESC, wireless charging, Blue Link on manual transmission variants, smart key, push-button start, side and curtain airbags, sliding centre armrest, and supervision cluster. Also not offered are 60:40-split rear seats, rear wiper and washer, rear-seat armrest, etc.

The SX(O) variant is based on the SX variant with the addition of some kit. It comes with the much talked about Blue Link and its array of connected features. This variant is also similar to the SX as it is only offered with the 1.0-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine. But the SX(O) variant does not come with the 7-speed DCT gearbox. The interiors are available in single dual tone and khaki dual tone option, but not with the  denim dual tone option as it is limited to the SX variant with the dual tone paint option. It misses out on ESC, 8.0-inch audio-video navigation, auto dimming IRVM, smart key, push-button start, air purifier, supervision cluster and wireless charging.

As we said before, the SX(O) variant is not available with the 7-speed DCT and this makes the SX+ variant the top-end version as it comes with the option of 7-speed DCT paired with the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. It is based on the SX variant but gets additional features over the standard SX variant. It misses out on the rear wiper and rear centre armrest, 60:40 rear split seats, etc.

  • 8.0-inch audio-video navigation
