Filling the gap between the Creta and the Santa Fe, the Tucson will compete against the likes of the Skoda Yeti and the Honda CR-V in its segment.

Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai has just launched the sixth generation Elantra in India, and to make things even more exciting, we have got confirmation that the Korean manufacturer will be launching the India-bound Tucson in October this year. Hyundai had showcased the third generation Tucson at this year’s Auto Expo held in February.

With the introduction of the Tucson, it will position itself between the popular Creta and the Santa Fe in Hyundai’s portfolio. The Tucson will basically be the SUV equivalent of the Elantra, with a similar price tag. During the Auto Expo, Hyundai had mentioned that the Tucson will be brought to India via the CKD route, with close to 50 per cent localisation in order to keep the product competitive in the market. It is likely that the car manufacturer will retail the Tucson in the price bracket between Rs 16-18 lakh.

Currently in its third generation, the SUV is completely different from the first generation Tucson that was previously sold in India. Carrying Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 design mantra, the upcoming Tucson has been spotted on a few occasions being tested on Indian roads. On the exterior, the SUV comes with projector headlamps with LED tail lights, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), panoramic sunroof and an electrically operated tailgate. For the interiors, Hyundai has equipped the Tucson with features like touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, steering-mounted controls and automatic climate control to name a few.

Under the hood, the Tucson is expected to be offered with a 1.6-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The SUV will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. In the international market, the Tucson is being offered with a 4WD option and we expect it to be made available for the Indian spec.

On the competition front, the Hyundai Tucson will go up against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Yeti.
