The next-gen i30 will be sharper in terms of looks and will also get a significant upgrade on the features front

Current-gen Hyundai i30 rear

According to a report, Hyundai has plans to launch the next generation i30 at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The car will cater mostly to the European markets and will be introduced there soon after its motor show debut. The current generation of the i30 was showcased at the Indian Auto Expo and received good response from visitors.

As you probably know, the current i30 is basically a hatchback version of the D-segment sedan Elantra. Continuing with this tradition, the next generation i30 could also share aesthetics with the recently revealed next-gen Elantra. Same goes for the interiors, which could also be a straight lift off the new Elantra.

Moreover, the upcoming i30 is set to be offered in three body styles; a hatchback, an estate, and a four-door coupe.

The new i30 has been spied testing a few times in cold regions like the Arctic and the Swiss Alps, but due to heavy camouflage, the details are yet to reveal themselves. Hyundai is also expected to bring the ‘N’ performance version of the next gen i30, but unlike the current generation car’s 3-door version, the vehicle will be a five-door version.

Under the hood, the next-gen i30 will get a handful of motor options in the European markets. It will retain the 1.6-litre turbo petrol motor that produces 185PS of power, along with the 1.6-litre diesel. Whereas, the N performance car will get a brand new 2.0-litre motor capable of taking the car to a top speed of 250kmph. The N performance motor has been developed using the expertise of Hyundai's WRC (World Rally Championship) team, which uses a rally-modified i20.

Next-gen Hyundai Elantra side shot

In the Indian context, despite Hyundai showcasing the car at the auto expo, it didn’t make a clear statement about whether the car will make it to India or not. The car sits above the Elite i20 and competes against the VW Golf globally. So, we would say that the chances of the next-gen i30 making it to India are bleak. Nonetheless, Hyundai has plans to bring two new products this year, namely, the next-gen Elantra and its comeback SUV, the Tucson.
