India’s second largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), inaugurated Hyundai Professional Development Center at Chandigarh Polytechnic College, which is located at Mohali. The South Korean car firm marks this as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative as the collaboration will help in enhancing education standards with specially designed curriculum, which will be in line with latest technologies.
HMIL says that the new syllabus will introduce automobile trade students to modern auto technologies. This move will help in developing the required skill set in car, engine, gear-box and other fields for broader career prospects. Not just that, Hyundai says that the programme is set to benefit Chandigarh Polytechnic College in building skillful professionals for the Indian automotive service industry.
Speaking about this initiative, Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP, sales and marketing, HMIL said, “We wish to contribute towards a marked increase in the availability of skilled manpower in the automobile service industry. We are committed to provide the best to students, which will eventually benefit the industry and society on the whole.”
It seems the established car marques in India have finally set their aim at honing the future of automotive industry right from the college days. Recently Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), India’s largest carmaker, announced a similar CSR initiative which will see the development of Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing. With MSIL committing an initial investment of Rs 3.2 crore, this institute is expected to go operational by August 2017 and will be equipped to train 300 youths per year in technical trades and Japanese shopfloor practices.
