Along with the addition of the automatic variant, Hyundai has also updated the prices of the Asta (O) variant.

Hyundai has been one of the most prominent players in the premium hatchback segment in India with the Elite i20. Since its introduction in 2014, Hyundai surprisingly haven’t offered the car with an automatic variant. Now, the Korean manufacturer has noticed the growing demand for automatics from buyers. With this, the company has launched the automatic variant of the Elite i20 at Rs 9.02 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

And, as if that wasn’t enough, the Korean manufacturer has also updated the Asta (O) variants of the Elite i20, which now gets six airbags, making it the only premium hatchback in the segment to offer these many airbags. Hyundai has priced the top-spec petrol variant of the Asta (O) at Rs 7.76 lakh while the diesel is available at Rs 9 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The new automatic variant of the Elite i20 also gets a 1.4-litre MPi VTVT petrol engine all to itself. The engine is capable of producing 100PS of power at 6000rpm and 132Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. The automatic transmission features a 4-speed setup with power transmitted to the front wheels.

Being offered in the Magna trim variant, the automatic Elite i20 does miss out on several notable features like ABS, rear camera with parking sensors, alloy wheels and height adjustment for seatbelts. It also misses out on the touchscreen infotainment display offered in higher variants. However, it does come with amenities like the 2-DIN infotainment system with four speakers and AUX/USB/Bluetooth connectivity, steering-mounted controls, power windows for all four doors, flip key and dual airbags.

Considering the inclusion of an automatic option for the Elite i20, it surely is a big relief to prospective buyers. But one also needs to consider the features that have been skipped which are mostly opted by most buyers. With the introduction of the automatic variant, the Elite i20 AT now extends its competition against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AT, Honda Jazz CVT and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
