Hyundai Alcazar Global Debut Tomorrow: Five Things You Need To Know

Hyundai will take the wraps off the Alcazar on April 6. Essentially a longer Creta with three rows of seating, the Alcazar could be one of the most affordable three-row SUVs in its segment compared to the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. The carmaker has offered us a sneak peek into the production-spec Alcazar ahead of its debut. Here are five things you need to know about the upcoming SUV:

Exterior

The front profile is similar to the Creta’s, but with minor differences, like that of a chrome studded grille and a new bumper. The Alcazar is, of course, longer than the Creta, thanks to the extra third row. It also seems to come with larger 18-inch alloy wheels for a better stance. Much like the Harrier-based Safari, the Alcazar’s rear is upright, with conventional split LED tail lamps. 

Interior

The dashboard is similar to that of the Creta, only in a black-brown colour scheme as per the sketches. The SUV will be available in six-seater and seven-seater layouts. The former also comes with a unique floor-mounted armrest console. 

Features

The Alcazar should pack features like connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, climate control, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system, powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting. Safety should be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring. 

Engines

 

Since the Alcazar is based on Creta’s platform, it’s likely to utilise the donor car’s engines. We expect it to be provided with a 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (with a 7-speed DCT) and a 115PS 1.5-litre diesel engine (with a 6-speed manual and automatic). The 115PS 1.5-litre petrol motor could be given a miss, given that the Alcazar is positioned above the Creta. 

Expected Price And Rivals 

The Alcazar is likely to be priced at a lakh more than the Creta, which retails from Rs 10 lakh onwards. It could be one of the most affordable seven-seater models in its segment. The Alcazar will lock horns with the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV500, and the MG Hector Plus.
