The festive season was especially good for Honda as the Japanese bikemaker registered record sales. Honda announced that it managed to sell over 12.5 lakh two-wheelers during the festive period, which is a massive 25 per cent growth as compared to last year. It was also the first occasion that two-wheeler sales crossed the 10 lakh unit mark during the festive season for the two-wheeler giant. The star performer for Honda was undoubtedly the Activa scooter. The “scooter king” of the Indian two-wheeler market managed to record sales of over 7 lakh units while the popular 125cc offering, the Honda CB Shine, recorded sales of over two lakh units. Also, on the auspicious day of Dhanteras, Honda managed to sell a mind boggling 2.6 lakh units in a single day!

Speaking about their performance, Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “To meet the overwhelming demand this festive season, we started our preparations almost 6 months back. We have been consistently growing month on month this year. As a trend, automatic scooters are clearly driving the two-wheeler industry growth and with new scooter only 4th plant in Gujarat achieving peak production capacity in September, Honda strategically met festive demand with seamless dispatches over two months. This planning resulted in Honda’s record performance and we acquired more than 10 lac happy customers in the 2 festive months. What is more encouraging is that we added 2.6 lac customers only on Dhanteras day!”

Honda also now holds the distinction of selling over 30 lakh two-wheeler units in India and it managed the feat in just seven months. The Japanese two-wheeler giant’s success can be credited to its automatic scooter range that witnessed a 26 per cent jump in demand as it sold over 20 lakh units in the first seven months of 2016. Sales for October 2016 also rose by nine percent as it sold 4,92,367 units last month. Another interesting statistic is the fact that Honda managed to sell over 3 lakh scooters for the fourth consecutive month.
