Honda Planning To Reveal India-Bound Mini-SUV

Japanese automaker Honda is planning to reveal a new seven-seater SUV, reportedly based on the HR-V, at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Honda has a reputation for making economical cars, but, over the last few financial quarters, the company's stock has been decreasing due to a variety of factors. Taking this into account the Japanese carmaker is coming up with the mini-SUV in a bid to regain its position in the market.

The new SUV is being developed at Honda’s Thailand research facility and will hit Asian markets, including India, soon. It will be positioned as an entry-level SUV and will boast a bigger ground clearance along with a stylish body design. Honda is also taking extra precautions in terms of safety features for its upcoming offering.

Honda Cars India in a recent statement said: “The growth in the category is significant, and we believe that it will continue. Honda is now considering how to capture the SUV segment.” Honda's upcoming plans for the sub-continent market revolve around the fast-growing SUV segment, and the BR-V that was launched earlier this year is part of the new strategy.

As per the Japanese automaker, the upcoming SUV will cater to demands such as functionality and practicality, all the while boasting an affordable price tag. The BR-V is already giving tough competition to the Hyundai Creta and the Honda HR-V will rival compact SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Ford EcoSport, and the Mahindra TUV300.

The upcoming seven-seater SUV from Honda will first be unveiled in the Philippines, after which it will just be a matter of time before it lands on Indian shores.
