The premium mid-size sedan is all set to increase its sales during the upcoming festive season

Honda City

When it comes to buying a premium sedan, the Honda City is a preferred car of choice for many. The popularity of this car has grown substantially after it was offered with both the petrol and diesel options, along with a CVT automatic gearbox with the petrol motor. The sales of the car have crossed the two lakh mark over the course of two years. Hence ,the Japanese carmaker claims that the City is the fastest-selling mid-size sedan in India.

Honda registered sales of 2,00,098 units of the current-generation City since its  launch in January 2014. Talking about the success of the car in India, Yoichiro Ueno, president and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd, said, “The Honda City is a much-loved brand in India and has been the most crucial part of Honda’s success in the country by cumulatively bringing in more than 6.3 lakh customers to the Honda family. Continuously re-inventing itself, each generation of the Honda City has brought in new technologies and offered new value to enthral the customers, becoming a benchmark for quality and trust.  We are extremely proud of reaching the new milestone of two lakh sales of the current generation of City and are confident that it will continue to put up a strong performance in future too. We would like to thank our customers for their love and faith in the Honda City as we celebrate this success.”

Mechanically, the Honda City is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol that produces 119PS of power or the 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 100PS of power. The petrol motor is mated to a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox and the diesel motor is mated with a six-speed manual transmission. The car also comes with Honda’s active and passive safety technologies such as ABS with EBD, SRS airbags and Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body shell.

With the festive season nearing, the sales of the City will hopefully see a further increase. Since Honda sold 4,255 units of the City and Maruti managed to sell 6,214 units of the Ciaz in August 2016, the competition between the two cars seems to continue.
