Honda City has been the hottest selling mid-size sedan since it was first introduced in India back in January 1998, and the previous three generations have sold over 4.3 units, making it the most successful sedan of our country.
The latest Honda City, in its fourth generation, is said to have broken another record by becoming the quickest mid-size sedan in India to achieve the 1 lakh sales mark in just 15 months. The popular sedan has registered 1,01,299 units of cumulative sales since its launch in January 2014.
Speaking about the Honda City’s achievement in India, Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “This is a very proud moment for us. City brand has been the face of Honda in India, enjoying strong leadership and popularity in its segment ever since its launch. We would like to thank our customers for the confidence and continuous support that has enabled the brand to grow from strength to strength.”
He further added, “While retaining the traditional set of sedan buyers, the new City has been able to attract a large number of young buyers. 30 per cent of the customers have bought the City as their first car.”
Until now, the mid-sized sedan was only available with a refined and efficient petrol engine, but for the first time Honda City in its 4th generation is also offered with a diesel engine (1.5-litre i-DTEC) option, which has been a key for the City’s popularity among the diesel craving Indian car buyers.
