The Honda City facelift promises changes more than just skin deep along with a few segment firsts

Honda City facelift

Three years into its sixth-generation, the Honda City is due for an update. The City facelift is coming to India on Feb 14th, and besides the cosmetic enhancements, we've come to know that it'll beat the competition black and blue with some first-in-segment features added to its kitty. The competition will soon heat up with the launch of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift and new Hyundai Verna. However, Honda will have high hopes from the City, which has been the company's mainstay in tough times.

The City has always been popular for being the only C-segment sedan sporting a sunroof. Children in India have a tendency to stick their necks out of the sunroof. Overseeing the danger involved here, Honda has paid heed to their security and the City facelift will now sport an electric sunroof with pinch guard feature. This will stop it from closing as soon as it comes in contact with any obstacle.

Honda City has been a bestseller for Honda in India

The City facelift will also receive a major update to its headlamps, which will be LED-powered in the top variant, a first for the segment. Another passive safety feature loosely associated with looks, DRLs, are expected to remain standard across the range. The City already has two airbags and ABS as standard in the sixth generation model, but trusted sources have informed us that Honda may spruce up the safety with a six airbag setup in the top ZX trim!

ZX will be the new variant in the City facelift line-up along with S, SV, V and VX. It'll also be the trim that gets fancy stuff like a 7-inch entertainment system with inbuilt memory (expandable), rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, 16-inch alloys, and all. We've also come to know that Honda may not equip the base S trim with a diesel engine, which forces us to believe that this variant may get limited equipment to keep the entry-level price competitive.

The City will continue to draw power from the existing 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The i-DTEC diesel motor with a 6-speed manual transmission makes a maximum power of 100PS. The petrol i-VTEC engine makes 119PS of maximum power and is currently available with a 5-speed manual and a CVT 'box. Honda is expected to offer the automatic transmission in the V, VX and ZX trims with the petrol engine.

Honda CIty facelift launch date confirmed

Bookings for the new City are officially underway at Rs 21,000, and six exterior colour options are expected to be on offer. Two new colours, we are informed by trusted sources, have been added to the palette while two existing colours – White and Urban Titanium – have been removed. The new colours are Steel Metallic and Moon Silver.

Prices for the Honda City facelift are expected to rise, with the top ZX variant powered by a diesel engine expected to cost considerably high compared to the current model thanks to a host of new features added to the mix. The City diesel currently tops at Rs 12.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it won't be a surprise if the facelift breaks the Rs 13 lakh barrier this time.
