Honda City Facelift Launching Tomorrow

Compared to the outgoing model, the Honda City facelift gets a new front styling with a more aggressive grille and a reworked bumper. The side profile remains the same, but the wheels have grown an inch and are now 16-inch diamond-cut units. At the rear, the boot gets a lid spoiler and slight changes are visible in the bumper as well. These changes make the sedan look sportier and hence more appealing to the younger audience. 

Look closer and you will find some new equipment as well. The 2017 Honda City gets LED lights all around. For the first time in the segment, a car gets full LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps and LED taillights, which make it look meaner.

Inside, the car sports some minor changes. It gets a slightly larger 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen (as against a 6.2-inch one in the current model) which also acts as a rear-view camera display. There's also turn-by-turn navigation, 1.5 GB media memory, MirrorLink smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, and an HDMI port to mirror your phone's content on the infotainment system's screen. The sunroof now gets a one-touch open/close button and occupant safety receives a big boost with six airbags (as against two in the outgoing model)! 

Mechanically, the sedan remains unchanged with a 119PS/145Nm 1.5-litre petrol motor with a 5-speed manual/CVT and a 100PS/200Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual. Interestingly, fuel-efficiency figures of the manual transmissions have dropped by 0.4kmpl. This may not practically make much of a difference in the real world but the new figures, on paper, stand at 25.6kmpl for diesel and 17.4kmpl for petrol. The CVT transmission continues to return a claimed 18kmpl.

With the updates, the Honda City appears to be an even better package than the current one. The main concern now is the price. With such features being added, the Honda City could now very well cross the Rs 13 lakh mark for the top-end ZX variant, making it the costliest car among the pool of its rivals – the Ciaz, Verna, Vento and Rapid.
