The car may be launched as early as February 2017

2017 Honda City Facelift - Front Quarter

The Honda City has lost a lot of ground since it was launched in January 2014. From being the highest selling car in its segment, it is now fighting to be in the top five. It is not just that the competition in the C2 sedan segment has increased, the increasing popularity of compact-SUVs/Crossovers too has eaten into the City's share.

However, Honda is now all set to launch a facelift of the City in India soon. The car has already been spied in India and some dealerships in Delhi have also begun accepting bookings for the car. While the company has not officially announced anything regarding the new City, we expect it to announce the start of bookings in the first week of February and launch the car soon after.

The Honda City facelift will have the one-of-the-first mover advantage among the sedans in the segment - if it is indeed launched in February - where Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the Ciaz through Nexa dealerships soon, Hyundai is getting ready to launch the next-gen Verna, Volkswagen is expected to update the Vento in the next couple of years etc. Skoda has already updated the Rapid for the 2017 model year, you can check out our first drive review of the car here.

So what can we expect from the new City?

At the front, the exterior updates to the car will include all-LED headlamps (which could be limited to the top-spec variants), LED DRLs, a larger grille with a slimmer chrome 'wing' element, and a sharper bumper with smaller fog lamp housing.

The side profile remains largely the same as the current model. However, the alloy wheels could be updated.

At the rear, the changes are limited to the new bumper which gets faux mesh inserts to reduce the bulkiness. Reports suggest that the City facelift in India could receive clear lens tail lamps to spruce things up a bit.

Inside, customers will be able to choose between beige or all-black themes. The design of the dashboard and other panels remain the same as before too; the touchscreen infotainment system is expected to be updated with smartphone connectivity and better interface. The interior reading lights will feature LEDs for better illumination.

Honda may also equip the new City with better safety tech, which could include side and curtain airbags in addition to the standard dual front ones, vehicle stability assist, a multi-angle rearview parking camera etc. These features are available in the new City launched in Thailand, and there are very few reasons why Honda would not offer the same to Indian customers too.

Stay tuned for the most up to date news on the upcoming Honda City Facelift.
