Strong demand for the new Honda City lifts sales by 65 percent during the month

Honda City contributes highest in February 2012 sales

Country’s leading premium car maker, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) reported cumulative sales of 8,856 units for February 2012, compared to 4,843 units in February 2011. The highest contribution came from the updated version of the Honda City, launched in December 2011, which sold 6,502 units.

Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India, said “February has been very exciting as well as rewarding for us. With normal production resuming at our Greater Noida plant from middle of last month, we are working towards normalising the supplies and cater to the growing demand of our cars. Our sales in February have been very impressive and reflect customer trust and confidence in our product and services. The Honda Brio and New City have received an overwhelming response from the market and we are positive that the growth momentum will continue in the coming months with increased demand for all our products.”

Despite the Thailand floods late 2011 that made things difficult for the car maker, there were considerable sales across its product portfolio in February 2012. The Brio sold 2,046 units while 356 models of the Jazz were sold. With the rest of the contributions coming from the Civic, Accord and CR-V models, Honda is pretty confident about its progress chart now.

Currently, the company has its manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with a capacity to churn out 1 lakh cars annually. The CR-V is the only model that comes in the market as an import. Honda has its 135 3S (Sales, Service and Spares) dealerships across 84 cities spread across the country.
