Honda Activa 6G vs 110cc Rivals

We compare India’s favourite scooter against its closest rivals

Honda Activa 6G Vs TVS Jupiter Vs Hero Maestro Edge: Spec Comparison

Honda has launched its sixth generation Activa, which gets a new BS6 compliant motor along with minor cosmetic and feature updates. It goes up against other 110cc scooters, notably the TVS Jupiter and Hero Maestro Edge. Here’s how Honda’s newest BS6 compliant scooter stacks up against these two on paper.

Note: TVS has launched the BS6 compliant Jupiter but since the company has not released any specifications, we will be considering the BS4 Jupiter’s specifications.

The Activa might have the lowest powered motor here but it is the only BS6-compliant powerplant in this list. This new powertrain has a more undersquare configuration and has been tuned for better bottom to mid-range performance. While torque is slightly down compared to the previous Activa 5G, it is still the highest here. Honda claims 10 percent better fuel efficiency as well as improvements in refinement. It is also the only one to get an ACG starter motor that makes starting the scooter a silent affair. While we are yet to ride the Activa 6G to gauge its refinement, we have ridden the BS4 Jupiter and can attest to its smoothness. In comparison, the Maestro Edge’s motor is gruff but feels sprightly compared to the other two scooters here.

The Activa 6G now gets an external fuel filler cap but misses out on a semi digital instrument console. It is surprising since the Activa 5G DLX variant got a semi digital instrument console. Also while the LED headlamp was standard in all Activa 5G variants, it is now available only in the top spec DLX variant. While the Maestro Edge might lose out on an LED headlamp, it gets a semi digital instrument console and alloy wheels. The Jupiter scores high on features and comes with all bells and whistles including Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and displays call and text alerts on the instrument console.

In its sixth-generation avatar, the Activa finally gets telescopic forks. In addition, it gets a 3-step adjustable rear monoshock as well. Another update is the switch to 12-inch front wheel in place of the previous 10-inch unit. This upgrade should make the scooter more stable over bad road surfaces. However, the Activa 6G continues to use drum brakes on both wheels and does not get a front disc even as an option. The Maestro Edge too gets telescopic forks and monoshock but misses out on rear suspension adjustability. Like the Activa, it also uses 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheel setup and drum brakes at both ends. The Jupiter impresses on the underpinnings front. It gets a suspension setup similar to the Activa 6G and in addition, gets an optional front disc brake and larger 12-inch wheels at both ends.

The top spec BS6 Honda Activa 6G is Rs 2,499 more affordable than the BS6 variant of the TVS Jupiter. That said it, misses out on features like a front disc brake, Bluetooth connectivity and a semi digital instrument console. In comparison, the BS4 variant of the Hero Maestro Edge offers good features and performance and we expect its upcoming BS6 fuel injected iteration to offer better value. On paper, the BS6 TVS Jupiter is the better bet if you want an all rounded scooter with added features.
