When it comes to high-end brands, one of the highest selling points for a manufacturer is the quality of their products. In the premium motorcycles category, Ducati is one manufacturer that strongly maintains the quality of its products. Now, the transmission division of Hero Motors has successfully landed a business deal to provide gearboxes for the premium bikemaker. The fact that the exotic Italian motorcycle manufacturer has chosen Hero to manufacture its components is a notable feat of expertise, trust and quality for Hero in the field.
Commenting on the new business deal, Pankaj Munjal, CMD, Hero Group said: “This definitely is a big leap for us and we are quite excited about this new development. With this win, we are not only forging a strong relationship with a global two-wheeler leader but also reaffirming Hero’s proficiency and expertise in specialised manufacturing. We look forward to a long-term association with our patrons.”
The transmission division of the Hero Group makes use of best quality systems that have resulted in zero parts per million (PPM) and high-end products. The company had faced competition from other European manufacturers for engineering the gears. The Hero Group’s transmission division already has tie-ups with leading motorcycle brands such as BMW, Harley-Davidson, and now Ducati, which adds to the company’s reputation. Almost 80% of the group’s business is with global market leaders in the bike business.
The company has invested Rs 150 crores to set up a world-class infrastructure to ensure high-quality standards among global competitors. A similar investment is also expected to be funded for operations in the international market.
As far international markets are concerned, Hero Motors already has an office in Vienna, Austria, that has been operational for over a year now and is in the process of establishing a footprint in Europe. The company is also aiming for a tie-up with a European giant to have designing, development, prototyping and testing backup worked out. The final mass production of the products will be carried out in India. With this technique, Hero Motors will be able to provide high technology products at a competitive price to its existing and new customers.
